Dr. Wesley J. Desselle joins Avalon Medical Group in the Shoals, bringing over 20 years of expertise in robotic, endocrine, hernia repair, and anti-reflux surgeries. Known for patient-centered care, he delivers exceptional outcomes through advanced techniques and compassionate communication.

Dr. Desselle has performed over 1,000 robotic procedures since 2013, ranking in the top 5-10% of surgeons nationwide. His skill in laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures earns a 95th percentile rating from Blue Cross Blue Shield and a 4.7/5-star Healthgrades score for patient education and empathy. He maintains below-average rates for hospital stay, infections, and complications.

A leader in the field, Dr. Desselle served as Chief of Surgery at ECM/NAMC Hospital (2018, 2022–2024) and Helen Keller Hospital (2012), and pioneered high-volume robotic surgery programs at both. He mentors medical students as a clinical faculty member, holding fellowships with the American College of Surgeons and membership in the American Foregut Society.

Dr. Desselle earned his MD from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha, and completed his general surgery residency with a year of trauma research at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
