Avalon Medical Group’s story spans decades back and is an interesting journey of independent physicians who worked together to create a common goal: providing a facility to best meet the medical needs of patients in the Shoals area.

First built in the 1980s by Dr. Jim Ashmore, Avalon Medical Center was also the location for Avalon Discount Drugs and Dr. Narayan Madasu. In the early 1990s, Dr. Ronald W. McCoy, M.D. located his practice there. In 1997 Dr. Loren McCoy, M.D. joined Dr. Ronald McCoy. At that time Avalon Discount Drugs was moved to its current location, a building in front of Avalon Medical Center, where it remains today. Dr. Kenneth Rose, M.D. joined the practice in 2007. Dr. Don Heinkel, M.D. joined the practice in 2013. Dr. Jonathan Parker, D.O. joined the practice in 2015. Dr. Adam Isbell, M.D joined the practice in 2018.

The decision for a new building was, in part, to meet the demands for physical space for staff, the need for space for new patients, and the need for space to continue providing excellent care for established patients. After groundbreaking, the new Avalon Medical Group facility relocated its new clinic next door to its old location.

In March 2020, Avalon Medical Group moved into a new 31,000 sq. ft. building at 2410 Avalon Ave, Muscle Shoals, AL. The old Avalon Medical Center was demolished and became the new facility’s current parking lot. The much larger facility houses additional diagnostic equipment and room to grow in recruiting new top notch physicians.

The Drs. Lindsey joined the practice in January 2021. Dr. Laura Lindsey, M.D. specializes in family medicine while her husband, Dr. James Lindsey, Psy.D.. practices clinical psychology.

Avalon Medical Group’s physicians provide complete care to the whole family. We can expertly care for all manner of physical ailments and provide a state-of-the-art diagnostic center featuring ultrasound, lab, digital x-rays, echocardiography, nuclear stress testing, and bone density testing. Our equipment is new and our technologists are some of the best in the field.

Avalon Medical Group has an in-house insurance department and accepts all main insurance policies.

Helen Keller hospital also has CT/MRI located on the first floor of our building for patient's convenience.

Tennessee Valley Surgery Group (Drs. Desselle and Griffith) are located on the first floor, and provide the finest care for all patients seeking an expert general surgery consultation.
