Dr. James Lindsey

Dr. Lindsey was born and raised in rural, downstate Illinois. Dr. Lindsey completed his undergraduate degree in psychology, graduating with honors from The Ohio State University in 1990. Following his graduation, he was employed by the Ohio State Department of Psychiatry where he coordinated a child grief research project prior to enrolling in graduate school.

Dr. Lindsey received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 2000 from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. Dr. Lindsey’s doctoral training included one year at Joliet Maximum Security Correctional Facility outside of Chicago and two years at the West Side Veterans Hospital in Chicago where he worked with inpatients and outpatients.

Dr. Lindsey completed his clinical internship at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, KY and at the Eastern Kentucky University Counseling Center.

After earning his doctoral degree, Dr. Lindsey completed post-doctoral training in South Carolina where he worked in private practice with individuals and couples and where he specialized in conducting forensic evaluations of reported child abuse.

Dr. Lindsey practiced in Russellville, AL from 2004 until 2021 before joining Avalon Medical Group. Dr. Lindsey is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Alabama Psychological Association. Dr. Lindsey works with a wide range of clinical issues. He sees patients from childhood through adulthood. He provides treatment to individuals, couples, and families. He performs diagnostic evaluations and psychological testing of personality functioning, developmental delays, and adaptive behaviors in childhood. Dr. Lindsey works with numerous physicians to assist in the evaluation of ADHD. He accepts most insurances.

Dr. Lindsey is the husband of Dr. Laura Lindsey (family practice) who also practices at Avalon Medical Center. He and his wife have a college-aged son. The Lindsey family enjoys sports, the outdoors, and travel.
