Dr. Don E. Heinkel is originally from Racine, Wisconsin but has lived in Alabama with his family of thirteen since 2005. He has been practicing medicine with Avalon Medical Group since 2013. After graduating from Wichita State University with a B.S. in Biology/Pre-Med, he met his wife, Angela, at church in Birmingham. At that time he was playing baseball for the Birmingham Barons. He played professional baseball for twelve years. Two in the big leagues… In 1988, with the Detroit Tigers, and in 1989, with the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1995 and with seven kids, he was then accepted into medical school at The University of South Alabama. The crew went up to The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley for his family medicine residency. He worked there until returning to Alabama in 2005. He is board certified in Family Medicine and is determined to give excellent care to patients physically, mentally, and spiritually. He, Angela, and their eight single kids live in Killen, Alabama. They have two married sons, who along with their wives, live in Nashville, Tennessee. They have one daughter, with her husband and two grandchildren, who live in North Carolina. They are happy members of this community and of Christ Chapel in Florence, Alabama.
