Our Story: A Legacy of Care in the Shoals
Since the 1980s, Avalon Medical Group has been a cornerstone of healthcare in Muscle Shoals, founded by independent physicians united by a shared mission: to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. Dr. Jim Ashmore established the original Avalon Medical Center, which also housed Avalon Discount Drugs and Dr. Narayan Madasu’s practice. Over the decades, our team grew with the addition of skilled physicians:
- 1990s: Dr. Ronald W. McCoy, M.D., joined, followed by Dr. Loren McCoy, M.D., FACP in 1997, expanding our Internal Medicine expertise.
- 2013: Dr. Don Heinkel, M.D., strengthened our family medicine focus.
- 2015: Dr. Jonathan Parker, D.O.,FAAFP joined.
- 2018: Dr. Adam Isbell, M.D., enhanced our Internal Medicine offerings.
- 2021: Dr. Laura Lindsey, M.D. (family medicine), and Dr. James Lindsey, Psy.D. (clinical psychology), joined to provide holistic care.
- 2025: Dr. Rohan Pareek, M.D. joined offering family medicine and women's health care.
In 2020, we relocated to a new 31,000-square-foot facility at 2410 Avalon Ave, Muscle Shoals, AL, designed to meet growing patient needs. This modern building replaced our original site, now our parking lot, and houses advanced diagnostics, including in-house ultrasound, digital X-ray, echocardiography, nuclear stress testing, bone density testing, and a complex laboratory—all operated by certified technologists. For added convenience, CT and MRI services are available through Helen Keller Hospital on our first floor.
Our newest expansion, a state-of-the-art building across the street at 2411 Avalon Ave, opened in August of 2025, hosting Avalon Urgent Care and Avalon Surgical, led by Dr. Wesley J. Deselle, MD, FACS offering expert general surgery consultations. This mixed-use facility reflects our commitment to accessible, comprehensive care.
